Baby Booties
Little feet can get very cold! Baby’s feet are drastically smaller than adult feet, and are much more sensitive to colder temperatures. Babies are most comfortable when they are warm, mainly due to the fact that they recently left a very warm, comfortable womb. While blankets, tops, bottoms, and caps keep most of their small parts nice and cozy, baby booties keep their tiny toes from freezing. These miniature slippers serve more purposes than simply keeping baby’s feet warm.
One of the most exciting and rewarding days in a parent’s life is watching their young child take their first step. What may be overlooked in this development is traction. Wobbly babies need all the help they can get when trying to find their balance, and a slippery floor combined with slippery booties can result in more than a few spills. Knowing this, many manufacturers that make baby booties add traction “prints,” such as cute bear paws, to help the baby grip the surface they are trying to walk on. These types of booties are generally unnecessary in the early months of a baby’s life, in which they spend most of their time in people’s arms, in a crib, or crawling around. However, as soon as you notice your child trying to stand up, it would be a smart choice to go out and purchase a few pairs of booties with traction prints incorporated in the design.
Comfort is by far one of the most important factors to consider when purchasing any article of clothing for a newborn. When looking for clothes for your special little someone, including baby booties, look for items that are made from mostly cotton. Almost all booties will also have a small amount of spandex (to keep them from falling) and a small amount of nylon. Avoid articles which contain rough stitching, lace, or other harsh materials, because their skin is very sensitive in the early stages of life.
A happy baby is a baby that is covered from head to toe in comfortable, breathable, and soft clothing. Overall, you want your baby to be comfortable and safe. If you use good judgment and stay away from baby booties that have buttons, ties, lace, tight elastic, and slippery material. If your baby is happy, you will be happy, and can more easily bond and create a positive relationship with them (even if they don’t know it yet).
