Dinosaur Toys

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Although a meteor wiped them out over 65 million years ago, dinosaurs remain one of the most popular themes for children’s movies, clothing, and television shows. From this popularity has sprung an increasing interest in dinosaur toys. Kids drool over the idea of having their very own T-Rex devour their friend’s Daspletosaurus. Dinosaurs have always caught the attention of kids of all ages, and will continue to do so for many years. Movies such as The Land Before Time have exposed children to the world of prehistoric creatures from a very early age, and have forever sparked their attention.

Dinosaur toys have evolved over time. From the classic plastic, painted, molded models has brought on a new age of toy dinosaurs. There are now remote control dinos, life-size blowup dinos, and realistic dinosaur costumes. There are complete sets of hundreds of different species that have the ability to keep your child busy for hours on end.

There are dinosaur puzzles, lunchboxes, glow-in-the-dark figures, masks, and even dinosaurs that grow in water. If you have an older dinosaur lover, there are model kids that produce results so real, you’d think you were smack dab in the middle of Jurassic Park.
Obviously, the most famous and recognizable dinosaurs is the Tyrannosaurus Rex. The T-Rex was the ultimate hunter, and a child’s collection would not be complete without one. There are endless amounts of other toy dinosaurs, and some of the most popular species include the Velociraptor, Stegosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Triceratops, and the Ptaronadon. This is perfect for a child with a limited attention span, because there are honestly thousands of different dinosaur toys to be found. Just like you use to set up armies of G.I. Joes, kids today set up entire displays of dinosaur ecosystems. With the dinosaur toys also comes realistic, prehistoric vegetation, landscapes, and rock formations.

dinosaur toys

The possibilities are endless in the world of old Earth.
Whether it is for Christmas, Easter, or a birthday, a dinosaur-themed gift is a sure-fire way to make your kid happy. Some children seem to only care about video games or watching TV, and dinosaur toys are a great way to peel them away from the television set and use their creativity (while learning at the same time).

If your child develops a passion for toy dinosaurs and dinosaur history, you can help ignite that flame with dino-themed clothing, lunchboxes, videos, computer games, informational books, board games, etc. Encourage your child to be creative, while also “secretly” encouraging them to be quite and well behaved with dinosaur toys!

Hair Bows

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

There aren’t many things cuter than a little girl wearing her favorite dress, complimented with an adorable hair bow. Hair bows are a unique and wonderful addition to nearly any outfit in a child’s wardrobe. While serving the purpose of style, hair bows and hair clips also keep your little one’s hair from becoming messy and keep them looking clean cut and beautiful. Since the appearance of a child reflects their parent, bows not only make your little girl look more presentable and well kept, but are a great indication that you care about your child and how they look on a daily basis.

Hair bows are targeted to basically any age group you can think of, from newborns to the elderly. Baby hair bows are an extremely popular item for newborns, and are generally softer and more comfortable than hair bows intended for older consumers. They will most likely use a weak elastic band to stay on, which is more gentle on the baby’s soft head. There are many different styles and types of hair bows, and can feature flowers, characters, shapes, and various holiday themed bows. No matter what outfit you or your child decides to wear, there is no doubt you can find the perfect hair bows to compliment any wardrobe choice.

hair bows

If you are a “do-it-yourselfer,” you can actually make hair bows on your own relatively easily. If you are wondering how to make hair bows out of simple ribbons and other materials, you’ll want to first:
Gather materials: go to your local hobby store and purchase the type of ribbon you want to use. Ribbons come in a wide variety of colors, widths, and patterns, so think about what you want your hair bows to look like exactly. You might want to use different colors and sizes in the same bow to add variety and style. You can opt to purchase materials such as fake flowers to attach to the bow. You will also need to purchase a barrette to fasten the hair bow to your hair. Next, find a thread (or multiple threads) that compliments the color of ribbon you have previously purchased. You will use this thread to attach the ribbon to the barrette, and depending on your sewing ability, use it to add dimension and style variance to your hair bows (don’t forget the needle!). Lastly, you will need either a glue gun or a fabric glue to add the finishing touches.

Toy Box

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

When asking a child what they want for Christmas, their birthday, or any special occasion, their most common response will always be: “toys.” No matter how toys a kid has, they always want, or even “need,” more. Furthermore, extra toys generally lead to extra clutter and messes. One of the most effective and practical ways to reduce this problem is to purchase a toy box.

Toy boxes come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and prices, and are a vital addition to any playroom or bedroom. A toy box can make cleanup easier for both the parent and child, and are usually a great space saver. A toy box can also become a part of a room’s overall appearance and design, adding a stylish touch to any room it is placed in.

If your child is a sports fan, or has a sports-themed room, there are limitless possibilities when shopping for a toy box. They can feature their favorite football team, hockey team, basketball team, and can even be personalized at a relatively cost effective price. If your child enjoys playing for a sports team, a personalized toy chest is an exciting and practical gift. A sports themed toy box does not only serve the purpose of toy storage; it is a great place to store their sports equipment and sports memorabilia. Storing their equipment in a designated box reduces the chance of the items being lost or misplaced, which can save you a respectable amount of money in the long run.

If you are looking for a more luxury or stylish toy box, there are many stores that offer various styles of wooden boxes. They can come in various stains such as natural oak, dark cherry, pecan, espresso, and even white. These can add a modern or classical touch to any living room, kitchen, den, or family room, and the wide range of styles and stains allow the toy box to match the decor of the room. Many companies also offer a personalization aspect to purchasing, allowing you to incorporate the child’s first or last name, or a popular phrase into the design. Some companies also allow you to have a picture or other graphic engraved in the toy chest.

Wooden can also serve as a seat or desk for your child’s playroom needs. A wood stained toy box is generally more expensive than a toy box made out of cheaper materials, especially if they are personalized.

Toy Box

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

One of the most memorable things that you can get your child is a toy box. A toy box is not only something that they can have in their room, or in their playroom that is filled with their favorite toys, but it is also a memento that they can take into adulthood with them. Children’s are sold at many stores, but many parents instead choose wooden that will last for many years to come. A toy box can be decorative or simple, and if your children are small, even plastic may be a way to go until they are old enough to take care of a nicer one.

A toy box is, in essence, nothing more than a toy storage box. However, toy storage boxes don’t mean the same thing to children as they do to us. A toy box will be a treasure trove of their favorite things, and a place that fills them with utter joy. Plus, its a great way to teach children how to clean up. Kid’s are located within easy reach, and you can teach your children that when they finish with one toy, that they should put it back into the toy box, before they take another one out.

Toy boxes can be something completely different for boys then for girls. Toy boxes for girls may be a place to store their stuffed animals, to decorate with stickers or to store their plates and dishes for a tea party. Toy boxes for girls may require that you have shelves inside, or be open, so that they can make sure that their dolls can see out and don’t get scared. Toy boxes for boys can generally be simply that – a toy box. Most boys tend to throw everything into the toy box, and are happy to dig through the mess to find the toy they want.

If you are looking for brand recommendations then you have a lot of choices. Of course, the first thing that you need to decide is whether or not you are getting the toy box to last into adulthood or whether you want something that they can play on, jump on and in general do what children do to all their toys. If you are looking for durability Little Tikes are a good choice as they are built to last under the destructive force of kids, but there are also many other brands to choose from.

A Little Tikes Car Bed Is More Than Just Cool Looking

Monday, October 12th, 2009

Most young boys are struck with car mania in the very early stages of their lives. They’ll be fascinated by anything with wheels and will usually have a vast collection of hot wheel cars and hot wheel tracks. If your child is big into cars and trucks one of the coolest things you can get for him is a Little Tikes . What little boy wouldn’t want to dream about driving in the Indy 500 only to wake up and actually be sleeping in a ? I know I would.

When kids are young and only just reaching the toddler ages, they haven’t been out of the crib for very long at all. Most children at this age will be used to the tall bars of the crib and will often fall off of normal adult twin beds because there are no elongated side railings to them. That’s what makes the little tikes race car twin bed so great, it has the car doors on each side of the bed and provides a barrier for your child so they won’t accidentally roll out of bed and hurt themselves.

little tikes car bed

The Little Tikes toy brand makes a ton of different along with their regular big wheels and toy truck lines and they are in all sorts of styles. If your son is into sports cars you can get him the little tikes sports car twin bed or if he’s just into flashy car designs and hot color schemes you might want to get him the lightning McQueen bed. Toddlers beds don’t have to be boring and average like adult beds, they can be zany and funny looking because they are built for children to have fun in them.

These car beds put the finishing touches on any car themed bedroom décor. You’ll often find that your son will love the bed so much that during sleepovers with his friends he’ll want to pretend to race around his bedroom with them in the back seat more than he’ll want to sleep. Of course, depending on your parenting style that could be a good or a bad thing but the important thing is that he is enjoying his childhood and slumbering comfortably and happily in a bed that was specifically designed with him in mind.

A Few Good Ways to Use Your Gym Mat

Monday, October 12th, 2009

It is important to get your children (and yourself) involved in activities that will make you sweat as early as possible. Regular exercise has a wide range of benefits for your health and if you are actively involved in exercising with your children it can also be a great bonding experience between the two of you. One of the most versatile pieces of exercise equipment that you can own happens to be the gym mat.

Gym mats and exercise mats turn the hard or scratchy surface of your floor into a fun and comfortable exercising area. There are a ton of things you can do on top of a gym mat that will not only be healthy and safe but will also be a lot of fun to participate in. Before I get into the details of what you can do on a gym mat let me first explain what a gym mat is.

A gym mat is usually a rubber mat that sits on the floor but you can also find foam mats and reed mats. Usually they are long rectangles that fit the size of your body so that you can lie on top of them. They come in two forms generally: the single gym mat and the connectible gym map.

gym mat

Connectible gym mats allow you to link up a bunch of gym mats using Velcro panels on the sides of them so that you can cover a lot more surface area.

Gym mats allow you to turn any surface into a plushy shock absorbing one. They are great for strenuous activities that require a lot of jumping or falling. Gymnasts will use gymnastics mats to cover the gym flooring they are leaping on to and also to cushion their falls should they lose balance and fall off their beams. Martial artists will often use a floor mat to practice self defense techniques and break falls. No one wants to be tossed to a hard ground surface while learning a technique so a play mat helps with the practicing.

Remember, no matter what activity you choose to partake in, safety comes first. Use gym mats to cushion falls and reduce the strain on ankles, knees, and legs. Keep exercising regular and make sure to get your children involved. Put an exercise mat or two in front of the television while you watch your favorite shows and use it to practice yoga stretches or to do sit ups and push ups on.

Doll Houses Provide for Fun and Undefined Play

Monday, October 12th, 2009

The toy world is full of video games, intricate gadgets, kung fu gripping action figures, and complex Barbie concepts these days. That’s all well and good but it feels as if we have forgotten some of the most important aspects of play and have outsourced our imaginations to the toy companies. Toys are supposed to be simple so that they can supplement our imaginations and allow us and our children to develop stories and games all on our own without the help of some invisible toy manufacturer telling us what to do.

Doll houses are exactly the kind of simple toy that has been forgotten over the years and replaced by more advanced technology. We forget how much enjoyment we got out of simply putting doll house furniture next to our porcelain dolls and pretending that they were having a tea party. We forget just how much fun it was to play house with our toys and develop a family story in our minds.

dolls house

Video games have taken up the mantle of the doll house and are providing our children with graphically intense virtual versions of our old fashioned doll houses in games like the Sims and Second Life but these don’t have the same kind of emotional attachment that our precious had.

If you are looking for something that will inspire your child and allow them to play free and unrestricted you should look into purchasing them a doll house of some kind. You can find doll houses of all different shapes and sizes, ranging from the incredibly expensive doll furniture furnished mansions to the cheaper plastic Barbie condos we all know and love. Give your daughter the gift of imagination and creativity and supply her with all the and doll house furniture she needs to really create something with endless opportunities.

Whether you’re a mother or a father there is something for you to do that will help you bond with your daughter. As a father you can help her to build new attachments to her doll house or maybe some miniature doll beds for her dolls to sleep on, as a mother you can dress up with your daughter and host doll house tea parties and really get into her imagination.

The possibilities are endless when you aren’t given any rules to follow and that’s exactly what you’re looking for in a toy. Doll houses are the perfect toys for open ended, unrestricted, and undefined play that will develop the creativity of your child and expand their imaginations.

The Many Types of Toy Boxes

Monday, October 12th, 2009

A child’s bedroom can be a hazardous place sometimes. When they have so many gadgets and toys to play with but don’t know how to properly organize and store them their room can often take on the appearance of a disaster zone. If you’re looking for some ideas for toy storage you should consider investing in a toy organizer or toy chest. Toy boxes come in a variety of different forms and they will allow your child to learn organizational skills and easily keep his room clean and neat.

Here are just a few of the types of you can get for your kid’s room:

Wooden Toy Boxes

The classic toy chest is the wooden toy box. Wooden are mainly for that aesthetic look. They go great with any furniture set, particularly if the child’s bedroom is made up of wood furniture, and they provide a lot of space for a whole mess of toys.

toy boxes

The only problem with the wooden boxes is that they are easily scratched and damaged. When you put a delicate piece of furniture into the tornado of a child’s play room you should expect to get a few nicks and scratches now and then.

Plastic or Rubber Toy Boxes

If you know you’re child can’t handle having a nice piece of wooden furniture in their bedroom and you want them to be able to cart their toys around safely in a light weight container, you should look into getting a plastic or rubber toy box for their room. Rubbermaid makes some great containers for toy storage and you can find some big enough for a wide range of toys. Actions figures won’t get damaged, wooden toys won’t get scratched, and stuffed animals will remain completely safe in these durable and flexible .

Toy Box Furniture

Often you can buy a bedroom set for a child that will come with the toy box as an accent item. They usually fit perfectly snug at the end of beds or under the window sill in a room. Speaking of underneath window sills, you can actually find that can be installed into the wall of your home so that they can never be moved and will always be there waiting to be filled up.

No matter what kind of toy box you choose to go with in your child’s bedroom you can be confident in the idea that once you get one their room will instantly become tidier. Browse the online stores and get a toy chest for your child today.

The Difference between Rocking Horses and Baby Rockers

Friday, October 9th, 2009

Let me get one thing straight before going forward here: We are not talking about heavy metal babies clad in chains and leather studded vests wearing big frilly Mohawks. We’re not talking about those kinds of baby rockers. We’re talking about the nice kind, the cute kind, the finally get your baby to sleep so that Mommy and Daddy can have a bit of rest kind. Baby rockers are essential to a child’s growth and to a parent’s sanity. They allow you to rock your baby to sleep by an automated process and will give you time to rest.

Now, there are some other products out there that are pretty popular with the young children these days and have been popular with them for ages. Those are the rocking horses. Rocking horses are wooden or plushy horses or other animals large enough for a child to sit comfortably on.

rocking horsesThey are built with rockers on their legs that let the child gleefully rock back and forth as if he were riding a real horse. They give the illusion of riding a carousel horse. They are great gifts when your little girl is begging for a pony, likes to play with horse themed dolls, or enjoys the show My Little Pony.

People can get confused sometimes and think that a rocking horse is in fact a baby rocker but this is false. There are many differences between rocking horses and baby rockers even though both of them share the same purpose: rock the baby.

Perhaps the main difference between the two toys is in the child’s age. Baby rockers are generally for infants or children under the age of two while rocking horses (though often ridden by babies as well) are more designed for the child of two and up. A rocking horse is for having fun while the child is awake and a baby rocker is for putting the child to sleep.

Both baby rockers and rocking horses are great to have around the house if you have small children. There is just something about constant motion that kids love, it calms them down and keeps them focused. Rocking horses come in all different shapes and sizes and they are made from a ton of different materials. Personally I’m a fan of the classic wooden rocking horse but you might like a plushy furry puppy.

Just keep in mind that once your child grows up they aren’t going to want to play with that rocking horse anymore and it’s either going to be sold at a garage sale or tossed in the basement never to be seen again.

Pick Up After Yourself: Put Your Toys in a Toy Chest

Friday, October 9th, 2009

There is nothing worse than a messy room. Toys that are thrown all over the floor, stacked up in closets, and strewn all over the bed are not only awful to look at but they can be pretty dangerous too. Those toys get expensive with all of their little plastic parts and bells and whistles and it really hurts when you step on one in the dark only to find the next day that you snapped it in half. Messy rooms will cause you to hurt yourself and to hurt your property. Don’t let that happen to you and your kids get a toy chest.

Toy storage is key to organizing and cleaning a child’s room. Children are messy creatures sometimes but really, they just need to pick up their things and put them away. Our kindergarten teachers try to teach them this skill in the classroom but if you really want it to stick with them you have to keep the same rules at home. If they don’t pick up their toys they are liable to break them and no one wants that.

You can find a wooden toy chest or toy organizer at really any store that sells toys. A Toys R Us or a K-B Toys will have a decent selection or at least one Little Tikes Toy Chest.

toy chest

Toy chests are great for organizing a child’s belongings and the toy stores know this. They know that if you’re buying hundreds of action figures or Barbie dolls from them you are probably going to need a place to put all of that. They know you don’t want your kid leaving his or her toys all over the house and they know you will probably spend a decent amount of money to make sure that doesn’t happen.

A wooden chest acts like any other but it looks really great in a bedroom. You can even buy bedroom sets these days that have toy chests built into the frames of the bed or just as an accent piece. A wooden toy chest will really bring together a child’s room and give it that innocent and fun look we all know and love. If you’re struggling to teach your kids to properly manage their belongings and clean up after themselves invest in a toy chest and just make sure that any toy they own goes back into the toy chest when they are done with it.

Sleep like a Racecar Driver in the Little Tikes Race Car Twin Bed

Monday, October 5th, 2009

Nothing says your child likes cars and trucks like his Daddy more than a bedroom filled to the brim with hot wheels and Hess trucks, Disney Cars themed wall paper and a Little Tikes race car twin bed to top it all off. Most parents will find that their boys develop an interest in cars and trucks around age two.

At that age he’s interested in either comic books and super heroes or cars and trucks and either way you have to support his interests. Some parents will settle for getting their boy a Spider-Man bed spread or a Minichamps race car model for his night table but if you’re looking to go all out and really get your kid’s attention you should invest in a Little Tikes .

Out of all of the companies that make car beds the Little Tikes brand is by far the best. They construct durable and kid friendly beds of all different sizes but specialize in the twin size. You’ll walk into your child’s bedroom one morning to find him wide awake playing race car driver. The car beds come in a variety of styles from the Little Tikes sports car twin bed to the Lightning McQueen bed. The toddler’s beds come in a spectrum of color schemes as well so that your son can choose exactly what kind of car his bed will look like.

little tikes race car twin bed

Once you’ve gone far enough to get your son a for his bedroom you’re going to have to complete the look and set him up with some car models and a television set. What will really drive him wild (and get the grandparents to say how spoiled he is) is an HD television set at the foot of his bed hooked up to a PlayStation 3 game console. Get him the latest Need 4 Speed car racing game and he’ll have the best time pretending to drive around in his bed all day.

A child’s bedroom is his sanctuary and should be set up just the way he likes it. If he’s into cars he should have a Little Tikes Car twin bed because he deserves it. At the very least, if you get a bed like that for your child, you can feel confident that when he grows up to be an adult he will know something about cars and how to fix them.

Forget Easy Bake Ovens; Get a Whole Wooden Kitchen Play Set!

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

I love to cook and my children really love to get involved when I’m working in the kitchen. Both my son (he’s three) and my daughter (she’s six) love to see what I’m baking up. Sometimes I make them pies or sometimes I make pot roast but all the time they are watching me in wonderment and amusement.

Now, when I realized how much they enjoyed watching me cook I couldn’t just ignore it and let it be. I wanted them to have the same love of cooking that I do and I wanted them to be able to safely pretend that they were cooking along with me! A real kitchen is a dangerous place for a young child but a wooden kitchen is a really great kitchen playset that they can use to pretend and no harm can come to them.

Wooden play kitchens are classic kid’s toys. They are kid sized and mother approved counters, stoves, microwaves, sinks, you name it! You can build a whole miniature kitchen set in your child’s room for them to play with and it will keep them entertained for days. When I was a child I remember having a wooden kitchen playset in my kindergarten class and even though it was mostly occupied by the girls of the class the boys would get in there and mess around with the plastic food products as well.

A child’s imagination has no bounds, I think as adults we forget that sometimes, but put a chefs hat on a child and point them in the direction of some toy kitchens and they will play all day. In fact, there is a children’s theme park devoted to just that called WannaDo City. Children dress up like chefs, firemen, police officers, and a whole mess of other professions and will spend all day in a city made of wooden toys.

Wooden Kitchen

If you’re looking to develop your child’s interest in the culinary arts but you aren’t ready for them to start playing with real kitchen tools a wooden kitchen is the perfect gift. Easy bake ovens can even be added to the kitchen set to give it a functional quality like no other. You’d be amazed at how much fun your kids will have. As a parent you want to provide the most enriching and safe atmosphere for your children to play in and the pretend wood kitchens are perfect for that.

Playing Pretend Family with Dolls Clothes

The imagination of boys and girls is endless. Little girls have great imaginations and love to play pretend. They love to pretend they are singers, dancers, their favorite character on tv or mommies. A must for most little girls toy box is dolls of all kind and the accessories that go with them like a baby bed, bottles, stroller, and . One of the favorite past times of little girls is playing house that includes a mommy, daddy, and a baby. They love to pretend they are married and daddy goes to work, and they are mommy who stays home to take care of their baby. The baby doesn’t always have to be a baby doll it could be their favorite stuffed animal or even the family pet. Anything they can put doll clothes on gets to be the baby.

Baby dolls are usually the favorite of little girls because they don’t fight when they try to put doll clothes on them or run away like the family pet. Pretending to feed, burp and change the baby’s diapers are also part of this game of pretend. They like to have play pots, pans, and dishes to play house with as well. Being a grown up mommy that takes care of here family is a fun game to play and good practice for when they actually do grow up and have a family of their own.

Little girls like to play with miniature doll houses too. There are many types of doll houses for children to choose from. Princess Toys for Your Little Princess

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Princesses have always been popular among the little girls. Girls want to be them and parents treat their kids like they are them and Disney keeps putting out movies, stories, and a whole ton of merchandise center around them. In fact, Disney is putting out a brand new princess themed film based around the story of the Princess and the Frog and in the film will be the first ever black Disney princess.

Princess toys come in all different shapes, sizes, and forms. Girls toys in general span genre and media forms but it becomes even more apparent with the princess toys. Whether your little girl is fond of Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, or the Princess Bride, she’ll be able to find a vast selection of different toys. Barbie alone has gone through just about every imaginable princess archetype in the past thirty years and Disney princess toys just keep changing and becoming more advanced.

Princess toys are not just dolls anymore either. You can find musical toys where you’ll put a DvD into the television and sing along with Princess Belle or Princess Jasmine. You can also find princess play sets that allow your little girls to dress up like their favorite princess and have tea parties with all of their favorite characters. Speaking of tea parties, even though Alice from Alice in Wonderland isn’t technically a princess she still belongs in the Disney Princess play book. I’m sure that with the new Alice movie coming out from Tim Burton we will see all sorts of new and fantastic princess toys based around the character.

A princess toy can be anything from a scepter and a tiara to a full blown Cinderella toy castle doll house. There are board games that follow each princess on her path to score the prince, and there are television shows and movies all devoted to these characters. Merchandizing is the biggest money maker these days and the princess toys are gold mines. If you have a little girl at home you’ve probably gone to Toys R Us and seen aisle after aisle of princess regalia and princess stamped items.

If your little girl is a princess in your eyes you can get as many trinkets and toys as she desires because practically everything and anything is modeled after the Disney princess characters these days.

The best online place to buy Disney princess toys is at the Disney website.
