Two Versions of a Game Played with Poker Cards
When you buy a set of playing cards you’re just getting one deck of cards and that’s it right? Well, often times when you buy a specific set of poker cards you will also be purchasing a set of poker chips, a card shuffler, and maybe (if you like poker a lot) a felt table to play cards on. There is no other difference between a deck of playing cards and a deck of poker cards. The only difference is the mindset you take on when you purchase a set of poker cards.
If you’re buying a set of poker cards you aren’t buying them to play games like Black Jack, Go Fish, or Gin, you can buy a set of Kem cards for that. You’re buying poker cards to play poker and poker alone. Sadly, playing one game over and over can get really boring some times. Now, granted, poker is a really interesting game and they can often be intense bouts of strategy and wit but no one wants to play the same game all the time so you have to mix it up a little bit at your poker parties.
There are two popular versions of the poker game that will allow you to not only break out those custom poker chips and the shuffler but also maybe win you a little bit of money.
The original poker game is played with five cards. House rules will change from time to time but the general object of the five card poker game is to out bluff your opponent. You can’t see any of his cards but you can kind of gauge the strength of his hand by what he’s betting and by what the other players around him are betting. This style of play gets complicated fast because you have to know the ins and outs of the poker game really well to be able to master it.
The other version, and currently the most popular version, is called Texas Hold ‘Em. This style of poker is played with only two cards in the player’s hand. The rest of the cards go face up into the middle of the table in what’s called a river. All players can use the cards in the river to complete their hands so it becomes more of a cooperative game than the five card version.
No matter what game you choose to play with your poker cards make sure that you follow the rules and do your best to hold on to your money. Gambling can be addictive and it can be a whole lot of fun.
