The Pogo-Stick Evolved: What is a Powerizer?
Do you remember the hay day of the pogo stick? We used to hop up and down on these cheap metal springy things and go nowhere for a few hours at a time and that was cool enough. Now with the popularity of the X-Games, Skateboarding competitions, and BMX bicycle stunt shows there is far more to pogo-stick jumping then there ever was before. In fact, the pogo stick isn’t at all what it used to be because now there is such a thing as the Powerizer.
There are basically 6 companies that make these jumping stilts, all with a different brand name. Additionally, Powerizers are now called PowerStriders due to a trademarking issue. Check out this website to get more clarification on the different types of jumping stilts.
What on this God given green planet Earth is a Powerizer you ask? Well, I asked the same question when my son asked for one for his birthday last year. It turns out that a Powerizer is a pair of amped up metal stilts that both act as pogo sticks used to. You attach each stilt to your leg and then are suddenly able to jump great distances and huge heights. People have created a ton of Youtube videos devoted to their amazing tricks and stunts that use the power of these jumping stilts to launch them into the air.
Powerizer stilts aren’t like any old stilts. They are similar to the latest models of prosthetic legs. They are bend and flexible and will allow you to not only increase your height but also to bounce up and down like a kangaroo whenever you want to. These toys are very dangerous though if used carelessly. You don’t want to go jumping off big stair ways and roof tops without the proper safety equipment on. If you’re going to jump around on a powerizer make sure that you equip yourself with some pads and a helmet.
If you’re now interested in purchasing a powerizer for yourself or for your kid, let me tell you where you can find them. These things aren’t easy to come by in your average store. They are more like stunt double equipment than anything else. In fact, I believe that the werewolves in the Underworld franchise films used modified powerizers to perform their jumps and extend their bodies. Movie magic is always fun to play with though and there are some great online retailers that will sell them at a decent price. You should probably expect to pay a hundred dollars or more for them though. These aren’t just like old skateboards.
