Monday, October 12th, 2009

It is important to get your children (and yourself) involved in activities that will make you sweat as early as possible. Regular exercise has a wide range of benefits for your health and if you are actively involved in exercising with your children it can also be a great bonding experience between the two of you. One of the most versatile pieces of exercise equipment that you can own happens to be the .

Gym mats and turn the hard or scratchy surface of your floor into a fun and comfortable exercising area. There are a ton of things you can do on top of a that will not only be healthy and safe but will also be a lot of fun to participate in. Before I get into the details of what you can do on a let me first explain what a is.

A is usually a rubber mat that sits on the floor but you can also find foam mats and reed mats. Usually they are long rectangles that fit the size of your body so that you can lie on top of them. They come in two forms generally: the single and the connectible gym map.

Connectible gym mats allow you to link up a bunch of gym mats using Velcro panels on the sides of them so that you can cover a lot more surface area.

Gym mats allow you to turn any surface into a plushy shock absorbing one. They are great for strenuous activities that require a lot of jumping or falling. Gymnasts will use gymnastics mats to cover the gym flooring they are leaping on to and also to cushion their falls should they lose balance and fall off their beams. Martial artists will often use a to practice self defense techniques and break falls. No one wants to be tossed to a hard ground surface while learning a technique so a helps with the practicing.

Remember, no matter what activity you choose to partake in, safety comes first. Use gym mats to cushion falls and reduce the strain on ankles, knees, and legs. Keep exercising regular and make sure to get your children involved. Put an or two in front of the television while you watch your favorite shows and use it to practice yoga stretches or to do sit ups and push ups on.

Turn Wood Floors Into Cushy Floors an Interlocking Foam Mat

Monday, September 21st, 2009

The ground is hard and we all know it because we’ve all fallen on our faces a few times in our life and hurt ourselves pretty bad. When you’re out there doing rigorous activities like playing soccer or practicing self defense moves it can get kind of rough every time you slam into the ground. If you’re a gymnast or a martial artist and you haven’t discovered the power of the , let me tell you a little something here.

Foam mats, gym mats, rubber mats, and any other type of padded that allows you to turn a hard surface into a mattress-like surface is the bee’s knees for safety. Gymnasts will tell you that there is no better way to pad the gym floor for their routines than with a because it not only allows them to safely fall down without hurting themselves but it also gives them a little spring in their step and their jumps and dives will not blow out their knees over time.

Whether you’re in a self defense class, a P.E. class, or just looking for a fun way to wrestle with your friends without hurting anyone, foam floor mats are the way to go. You can get one or two for those small practices or for those Yoga routines but if you really want to cover a large amount of space you’re going to have to invest in some interlocking foam mats. A set of interlocking will allow you to stack up different mats and Velcro them together.

There is no excuse for floor related injuries these days because floor mats are inexpensive and easy to use. You can throw them down onto any surface whether it is carpeted, wood, or cement and you can even find outdoor mats to use out on the grassy knolls everyone loves rolling around on. If you know that there is a likelihood that you will fall onto the floor during the activity your doing you need to put down a set of floor mats to protect yourself from harm.

Besides using floor mats you can also do a lot to prevent yourself from injury by technique. Martial artists teach what is called break falling which basically shows you how to open up your body when you fall so that the impact is dispersed over a wider surface area. The more surface area struck, the less damage will be done.
